Writers Direct is an experimental website set up to promote my screenplays and to encourage other established and aspiring writers to get their screenplays written and out there. It is designed as a forum for discussion about writing and film and seeks to encourage an exchange of ideas for all those interested in story, drama, film and alternative strategies for production.

Services are offered in script and website development and it is hoped that others will be offered in the future, depending on the input from other writers and collaborators. It is hoped to connect writers, actors and others with the traditional sources of demand – film producers, TV, etc along with unconventional investors in film, such as community and cultural groups and institutions.

The approach taken is experimental in that it will explore how the internet can be used to promote screenplays and other forms of writing, and to drive the production/publication process. It is intended to build a community of interest around the projects that feature on the site that will also serve as a basis for future distribution of writing and story-based work.

I will try ideas such as filmed read-throughs of scripts and obtaining feedback from users of the site, which is open to improvement by anyone. Rather than talking in the abstract, I have thrown in two of my screenplays into the fray - London Nights and The Animal Game. They are both in an advanced stage of development and can be downloaded from the site.
